Islamic Economics & Finance Adjunct

Job Description:

Adjunct faculty serves as temporary part-time faculty and are appointed as needed on a semester-by-semester basis. The primary duty is effective teaching at the graduate level in the Guidance College Master of Arts Islamic Economics & Finance.

This faculty instruction position is solely performed using remote synchronous technology. There are no campus courses offered.

This position reports to the Chief Academic Administrator and is responsible for presenting course materials in an organized manner that are associated with student learning outcomes, assignments, and evaluation/testing; teaching evenings and weekends; maintaining classroom routines and student records (FERPA) using the campus LMS; being available for one (1) hour per week at a designated time for student interaction and mentoring using the LMS chat function; meet all deadlines per contract for concluding course and turning in grading and allowing time for a written student course evaluation toward the end of the course. All professors must exhibit professional conduct and interaction with all members of the Guidance College community and avoid all manner of inappropriate actions and words that could be deemed as harassment of demeaning.

Must have a proven background in Islamic Finance and Economics that includes a deep understanding of relevant Shariat law for this position.

General Education Adjunct Faculty - English Language Fundamentals & Composition
GENERAL INFORMATION

Announcement – Guidance College, a Houston Texas higher education institution offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in Islamic Religious Studies, Education, and Economics & Finance, announces an immediate opening for hiring an adjunct professor who is qualified to teach mathematics and algebra courses at the undergraduate level. This engaging area of the curriculum for degree students focuses on improving written communication skills to meet general education requirements along with critical thinking and problem-solving skills for lifelong learning.

Course Overview – Students are challenged to improve their writing skills through the study of basic grammar and rhetoric before they attempt to compose a formal research paper using APA style. Students learn how GC faculty grade short answer questions, written essays, and research papers using a writing template and the faculty grading rubric. This course is especially helpful for students whose second language is English.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

· Completed Ph.D. preferred or ABD acceptable in humanities/rhetoric/English;

Completed master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in rhetoric/English from a USDE recognized accredited college or university.

· Teaching Islamic religious education content is not required for instruction in mathematics courses. Respect for Islam and its teaching is expected.

· Preference will be given to candidates with prior remote learning teaching experience.

· Access to the internet, a personal computer, and telephone are required.

· Demonstrate ongoing responsiveness for improving professionally as well as classroom instruction technique and student responsiveness.

COURSE OFFERING DECISION-MAKING

Adjunct faculty are hired on a semester basis, depending on current instructional needs identified for each semester on the course schedule. Compensation is normally based on a fixed amount for teaching a minimum of five students. Other arrangements based on class size are made at the discretion of the Chief Academic Administration and in conjunction with the Chief Student Development & Services Administrator. All course offering decisions are concluded within the first two weeks of the term.

Assistant Professor is Islamic Studies

Preferred PhD in Islamic studies, but will consider those candidates that have a Master’s in Islamic Studies with at least 18 credit hours in Islamic.

Chief Academic Administrator

POSITION TITLE:  Chief Academic Administrator

REPORTS TO:  President & CEO’s Office

DESCRIPTION:  Responsible to the President & CEO for leadership and management for all academic operational areas involving faculty and programs. This position works closely with Institutional Effectiveness Department to carry out key academic initiatives in GC’s accreditation journey. Full-time faculty member starting as an Assistant Professor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Administrator

Toward Leadership

  • Works closely with the President & CEO and other Chief Administrators for achieving the mission of the College, its strategic initiatives, and goals.
  • Participates in all faculty hiring according to instructors needed per term and that hiring, reassignment, retirement, and dismissal processes with duly followed per Guidance College Faculty Manual.
  • Reports and regularly shares information with the CQAT (College Quality Assurance Team) to apprise all members are kept fully informed on the condition of the faculty and programs and important factors influencing decision-making priorities.
  • Works closely with Institutional Effectiveness Department to continue accreditation work and tracking for the Strategic Planning Document and Assessment Plan for improvement.
  • Contributes to organizational synergy by effectively following the Annual Planning Cycle.

Toward Business Operations

  • Works with Business Office to prepare and submit budget items for annual budget approval.
  • Ensures payment for all faculty academic instruction assignments are accurately reported to the Chief Financial Administrator and paid according to faculty salary scale.

Toward Faculty & Staff

  • Ensures institutional policies/procedures and that goals/action plans are executed in an effective manner for documenting academic program and student learning improvement.
  • Reports academic credentialing to IE for affirming qualification to teach a course as part of keeping the SACS faculty roster current. 
  • Organizes and leads two faculty meetings per academic year for professional development and faculty recognition. Included focused time during these meeting to ask for new ideas, and encourage assessment leading to improvement in all academic areas.
  • Conducts annual faculty performance review for faculty goals, projects, and strategies for improving student learning.
  • Promotes faculty publishing and speaking in professional venues.
  • Works closely with the LMS facilitator and Student Development & Services to execute effectual faculty performance and course delivery. 

Toward Students & Alumni

  • Teaches two synchronous (live) courses each Spring, Summer and Fall semesters, or what is equivalent to two courses but as asynchronous courses.
  • Listens and directs students to appropriate personnel for resolving grievances and complaints and concerns about faculty performance and academic policies. 
  • Listens to alumni and develops rapport for life-long relationships with Guidance College.

Toward External Relationships

  • Works alongside local masjids and community leaders to assist with their work.
  • Participates in and nurtures broad networks of alliances with others to exchange knowledge and information about learning and change in support of GC’s strategic planning initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organization and execution skills.
  • Has published work supporting higher education and the mission of Guidance College.
  • Has minimum five-years successful academic leadership employment and instruction.
  • Ability to effectively work with all internal personnel, alumni, and other external constituencies.
  • Ability to formulate and articulate sound policies in agreement with the College’s mission and educational philosophy; demonstrated ability to identify, resolve conflicts, and address a wide range of administrative and personnel issues involving the academic area of the school with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities.

Supervision Given and Received:  Determines own methods of performing assigned work where definite objectives have been established and requiring a wide range of procedures. Supervise and evaluates faculty for purposes aligned with the institutional priorities. Executes directives from Institutional Effectiveness.

Accountability and Evaluation: Reports to President & CEO. Annual Personnel Review and Instructor Course Evaluation forms. Occasional outside peer review through other academic leaders.

Preferred Position Qualifications:  Completed Ph.D. preferred or ABD acceptable focused in Islamic studies. If doctoral degree is international issued, the content course work must be reviewed by any credential evaluation agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education for comparative US equivalence. Five or more years working in a post-secondary education environment with significant experience in an academic administration role including the preparation and execution of academic programs, budget, personnel, student academic policies, strategic planning, and the use of technology in higher education, and effective instruction as an experienced faculty member.

Chief Advancement Administrator ( Fundraiser)

Position: Chief Advancement Administrator (Fundraiser)

Reports to: President & CEO

Job Summary

The Chief Advancement Administrator is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and executing fundraising opportunities to further the mission of Guidance College through fund raising as well as improving the functions of the institution.

Adjunct faculty member is optional depending on dated priority fundraising initiatives and academic credentialing. Works with the Institutional Effectiveness Administrator to achieve strategic planning and assessment goals and action plans as part of the institution’s accreditation journey.

Preferred Position Qualifications

Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) in business, finance, or leadership field. Financial professional education recognition/certification is highly recommended. Five or more years working in a post-secondary education (preferred) or administrative environment. Significant experience involving the preparation and execution of a comprehensive budget, making financial arrangement/contractual arrangements, working with varied software packages for maximum work productivity.

Knowledge and Abilities

· Strong track record for organizational and execution skills.

· Ability to effectively work with all internal personnel, alumni, and external constituencies.

· Ability to articulate policies in agreement with the College’s mission, guiding principles, and educational philosophy for Islamic religious education; demonstrated the ability to identify, resolve conflicts, and issues involving the operation and goals of the College with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities.

· Ability to work empathetically and productively with all members of the GC community.

· Ability to communicate well and model ethics in line with the Islamic values.

Duties & Responsibilities

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

· Works closely with other administrative personnel for achieving the mission of the College and its strategic initiatives.

· Oversees the fundraising activities of the College and supervise people needed to achieve fundraising goals.

· Works with President & CEO and Chief Financial Administrator for meeting budget priorities and purchases.

· Works with President & CEO and Chief Financial Administrator for providing budget oversight and fiscal control using written plans and procedures with variable ends.

· Oversees the receipts and management of donor accounts.

· Submits important dates, events, and deadlines for the institutional calendar in cooperation with other administrators.

· Keeps cordial relationships with vendors and other academic institutions and personnel.

· Contributes to organizational synergy by accomplishing related action plans with other departments via strategic initiatives.

· Maintains professional development for administrative issues within purview by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, participating in professional societies.

· Performs other related duties as assigned apart from fundraising.

FUNDRAISING ADVANCEMENT FUNCTIONS

· Assists the President & CEO (as well as self-initiating) the advancement push of GC by locating and developing relationships for securing large gifts for endowment and projects; systematic/matching gifts from mosques, foundations, small businesses, and corporate groups; building estates in which GC is a beneficiary.

· Develops and grows a consistent small gifts program to support tuition revenue for the daily cash flow operating budget.

· Supports the development of Guidance’s Story for presentation in a variety of venues.

· Cultivates a multi-tiered database with appropriate contact strategies.

· Assists in meeting GC’s PR needs and marketing initiatives in collaboration with Student Services & Development.

· Oversees alumni relationships in collaboration with the President & CEO’s Office

· Cooperates with the Institutional Effectiveness Administrator in meeting accreditation and institutional priorities associated with strategic planning and assessment.

· Contributes information about financial support for GC using the website, social media, and marketing outlets.

· Contributes to organizational synergy by accomplishing related action plans with other departments via strategic initiatives.

· Provides regular reports pertaining to advancement progress with the President & CEO, CQAI, and others as needed.

SALARY, OTHER COMPENSATION AND WORKING HOURS

This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. Salary is based on experience. Employee (Form W2) will receive IRA, life and disability insurance.
