Returning Citizens

Welcome to Guidance College!  The College is honored to provide returning citizens with an inclusive and supportive environment to learn and practice Islam. Guidance College is a part of the reentry journey, where returning citizens can become students of knowledge. Returning citizens are encouraged to apply.  Whether you’re interested in an Associate’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree, or you just want to take a classes for your own personal satisfaction, Guidance Community College has a program to suit your personal goals.

Upon admission to the college returning citizens are welcome to apply for income based financial aid.


Why does GC support returning citizens

The United States is the world’s leader in incarceration. Home to four percent of the world’s population, the US has 16% of all incarcerated people in the world. There are 200,000 federal prisoners, 1.3 million state prisoners. Further, 38.4% of inmates are black, 57.6% of inmates are white, 47% of inmates in state prisons are parents and 57% of inmates in federal prisons are parents. Muslims Are Vastly Overrepresented in State Prisons. Although Muslims, are only one percent of the U.S. population, Muslims make up about 9% of state prisoners. (ACLU)
